S5E6: How different could this be?
Full transcript:
Good morning, happy Monday, and welcome to the Language Confidence Project, the daily dose of language courage for people who love languages, and those who really don't but have to learn one anyway!
So, the big news of the day is that the Language Confidence Project has a brand new website and it's live right now!
I pressed the big publish button at 7am UK time, and I can't wait to show you and I am so, so proud of it. So go and check out

…it's in the show notes, and tell me what you think! I'll be adding all the old podcast transcripts over the next few weeks. Last week's episodes are already up, and from now on I'll be adding them as they air, so if you want to read along, keep checking back on the website!
And all this week on the podcast, to celebrate the launch of the website and the Be Your Own Best Teacher group program, we're going to be asking some questions to help us reclaim our present day language learning from the clutches of what we did at school, and really make it our own in our adult life.
It's the core of what we'll be looking at in the group program, which will run from September the 25th to December the 15th. And it's not too late to sign up to the free two week launch celebration and taster fortnight, which starts today this evening in UK time and runs for the next two weeks. There are going to be events every weekday except Thursdays. So if you're looking to start this year off in the most creative and compassionate way you can, hold on and I will tell you all the details at the end of this episode.
And today I have one question for you that's going to form the foundation of every other episode this week.
And that is, what if you could do this completely differently? Or in other words, how different could the process of language learning look and still get you the results you want? What if you could reimagine your language learning to the point where it looks nothing like it does now? What is the weirdest, quirkiest, but most wonderful collection of activities, resources, events that could still work to get the words into your head and the grammar patterns imprinted somewhere in your brain?
So you're still learning words. You're still learning patterns. You're still practicing putting them together in different ways and practicing having them sent back to you in different ways but just Not Like This. What would be the furthest conceivable path from yours right now that could achieve that for you, or if not for you, for someone?
How different could this whole process be from your reality right now? And if it looked unrecognisable... Would it be better? Would it be more fun? Would it be more comfortable or less stressful? Would you enjoy it more? Would you feel more motivated to start in the morning? Or would you feel happier with it when you went to bed?
It's just something to ponder over or maybe even journal over today.
And if you'd really love to explore how to reclaim your language learning from your school days with a group of creative and like minded people, I would love to invite you to consider the Be Your Own Best Teacher program, which starts on September the 25th, that's two weeks away, and will run all the way until December the 15th.
We'll be mixing workshops, journaling, co working, and group accountability calls to help us detangle our present day language learning from our school days, sift through our experiences, and make sure we're bringing all the good stuff along and leaving the less useful stuff behind. We'll be exploring everything from our learning environment, to the way we plan our time, to the way we talk to ourselves when things get tough.
And if you're curious, as I mentioned at the beginning, I am running a completely free Taster Fortnight, which starts today. It's not too late to sign up, there are so many events planned. And so if you're interested, send a quick DM on instagram at @teawithemily and I'll send you the event schedule. You can join as much or as little as you like and there is no pressure to join the full group program at the end.
I hope you love the new website, I hope as many of you as possible come for this taster fortnight: it's going to be a huge celebration and a huge thank you to you for how you've supported me and the Language Confidence Project over the past year.
Have a wonderful day, and I will see you tomorrow.
