Privacy Policy

THIS PRIVACY POLICY SETS OUT THE WAYS IN WHICH THE LANGUAGE CONFIDENCE PROJECT USES AND PROTECTS ANY INFORMATION THAT YOU PROVIDE WHEN YOU USE THIS WEBSITE.

The Language Confidence Project is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. If we ask you to provide certain information that identifies you when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

This policy is effective from 11/09/2023 (Monday 11th September, 2023).

The Language Confidence Project may collect the following information via email subscribe boxes:

  • Name

  • Contact information, including email address

The Language Confidence Project is only able to collect this data if you provide it, either by entering your email address into the subscribe box, or by leaving a comment. I will delete such information from my files as soon as reasonably practicable.

WHAT WE DO WITH THE INFORMATION WE GATHER

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

  • Delivery of free content (such as newsletters) requested via opt-in boxes.

  • Analytics – to find out more about the geography and demographics of readers and customers of The Language Confidence Project.

SECURITY

I am committed to ensuring that your information is secure and will never share your data with third parties for commercial gain.

HOW WE USE COOKIES

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added, and the cookie helps to analyse web traffic. Cookies allow websites to respond to your individual needs by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. For example, cookies will allow this site to save your login details (so you don’t need to re-enter them every time you visit) and your screen display preferences.

I use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps me to analyse data about webpage traffic and improve this website in order to tailor it to customer needs and interests. I only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

Overall, cookies enable me to provide you with a better website allowing me to track which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie will never allow me to access your computer or any information about you, other than the data you have chosen to share with me, and deliberately entered via comments or via subscription to my site.

If you would prefer that cookies were not installed onto your browser, you can choose to decline cookies by changing your browser settings. However, this may prevent you from taking full advantage of the website.

LEAVING A COMMENT

When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment on this site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
